UHCIC was licensed as a life and health insurance company to write accident and health insurance. The company provided Medicare Advantage products to approximately 34,500 Medicare recipients as of April 2013. A Florida corporation, UHCIC was licensed in May 2006 and was headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Affiliated companies include Universal Health Care, Inc. (an HMO located in Florida); Universal HMO of Texas, Inc. (an HMO located in Texas); Universal Health Care of Nevada, Inc. (an HMO located in Nevada); and Universal Health Care of Georgia, Inc. (an HMO located in Georgia).
Effective April 1, 2013, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) automatically enrolled beneficiaries of UHCIC enrollees in Original Medicare through which they were able to obtain Medicare (Part A and B) coverage. Those beneficiaries who also had prescription drug coverage through UHCIC were enrolled into a comparable prescription drug plan, either Coventry Health Care, Inc.; Envision Insurance Company; Humana Insurance Company; or United Healthcare. Beneficiaries can learn which Prescription Drug Plan they are enrolled in by contacting 800-MEDICARE (800.633.4227).
Affected beneficiaries have been granted a special election period during which they may make one change in their Medicare health care and prescription drug coverage in order to enroll in another Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plan. This election is available until through May 31, 2013. Coverage in the new plan is effective the first of the month following their plan selection.

Recent Events: Five guaranty associations (Arizona, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania) have indicated they would provide coverage for claims that were incurred prior to April 1. PayerFusion has been selected to adjudicate claims for both the affected GA’s and the receiver (non-affected state claims). Claim notices were been mailed by the receiver to providers in late March 2014 and we anticipate claims funding to begin late April.

Policies of an insolvent company are often transferred to a financially sound insurance company. If policies are not transferred to another company, the policies are continued and claims administered by either the guaranty associations or a third-party administrator (TPA) working on behalf of the associations. Please contact the company/TPA listed below or the guaranty association in your state of residence for more information about your policy.
